New Year Cometh

Writer's picture: Russell JacklinRussell Jacklin

Our held breath of midnight.

As this old year solemnly folds.

Heralding a blank canvas

Unwritten stories to be told.

Fireworks, with colours, burst,

to a star-studded velveteen sky,

A celebratory good riddance

As last year passes by.

Welcoming, most heartedly

Expectations of this coming year

Counting down in seconds

Till, in unison, we raise a cheer,

Proffering a promise for individual change

Resolutions for ourselves we make

However, soon, there comes a time

When those resolutions, now made, we break

This virginal new year

Welcomed to arms outstretched

Desirous that this world may see what’s right

Hope and love for all, expressed.
